Esteem and sport
Posted by Cecilia under: Sports .
Sometimes I read in articles about sports that a winning team “humbled” the other team. This word creates a feeling that sport means fighting and that losing has to mean being humiliated.
There are indeed two different ways to look at and to understand sport. One way is that sport is like a fight. The public gives attention only to the outcome, to the winner. The other way is that sport is entertainment and fun. The audience enjoys the sport activities with all details such as strategy, talent and exciting plays. The result, the winner and loser are only one small part of the total experience.
If we can understand the second approach to sports we’re living the esteem view.
We wouldn’t only look at who is the winner and loser, we would enjoy sport with all its facets, participants and talents.
