    Top 5 key-thoughts about self-esteem

Posted by Cecilia under: Philosophy .

Everybody has their own self image.  This personal assessment determines the health of our self-esteem.  Self-esteem means nothing more than having a positive opinion about ourselves.  It’s more than just saying, that we are great. Self-esteem is based on our knowing about our preciousness.

The more we think and speak about self-esteem the more we understand it and can develop it in us.

Today we present our top 5 list containing key-thoughts about self-esteem.

    Esteem and Self-Esteem

Do esteem and self-esteem concur or do we need to have self-esteem before we are able to give esteem to others?
The answer I think is not distinguishing the sequence when one or the other has to happen.  It’s no question that both are important and necessary for each other.
Having self-esteem makes it easier to give esteem to others.  Getting esteem from others facilitate building self-esteem.
Being active for esteem at all is perhaps the best answer.  We can be active in strengthening our self-esteem or we can start with giving esteem to our fellow persons.  Then esteem and self-esteem can become a basic part of our lives.

Self-esteem in each cell of our body

In Wikipedia I read that self-esteem encompasses beliefs, emotions and behavior, it comprises our whole personality.
Self-esteem doesn’t depend on external actions or experiences.  Contrarily, it is the manner of handling external actions.  How you act, how you think, how you feel, every move of your personality is an expression of your self-esteem.
I like the picture of having self-esteem in each cell of our body. It makes self-esteem corporal and mental at the same time. With all our cells we live and express self-esteem. Everybody should have a highly developed self-esteem.

    Self-esteem and inner harmony

Living in inner harmony is for all of us an important goal we want to achieve.  Being in accord with ourselves makes us patient toward ourselves and toward others.  It makes us happy and content with our life situation.
Self-esteem leads us to inner harmony because it lets us know that we are precious and that we deserve esteem.  At the other side having inner harmony strengthens our self-esteem giving us understanding about ourselves.
It’s easier to grow self-esteem when we live in accord with ourselves.  Without any question it’s also easier to give esteem toward other people when we are content with ourselves and when we are self-sure about our preciousness.

    Self-esteem is visible

When we speak about self-esteem normally we mean a mental attitude, something which happens in ourselves.  Self-esteem is our inner strength and self-sureness.  It makes us know about ourselves and about our abilities.
With a strong self-esteem we don’t need somebody telling us how good we are.  We just know it.
Self-esteem might happen in our inner self, at the same time self-esteem is visible toward the world.
There are many visible signs of a healthy self-esteem.  One is the smile of a strong inner happiness on our face.  Another sign is how we choose to dress ourselves.
Take a look at you!  What kind of clothing are you wearing?  You show with your clothing how developed your self-esteem is.  Self-esteem means taking care of ourselves.  You can be sure that other people “see” your self-esteem even without knowing it consciously, they get the picture of you which you choose.

    Self-esteem and self-confidence

Self-confidence is strongly connected to self-esteem.  We could say that self-esteem is the basic inner part and self-confidence is the outgoing active part.
There could be an inner dialog between self-esteem, self-confidence and you: Your self-esteem tells you: you’d really like to develop your talent, it makes you happy working with your talent, Your self-confidence answers: yes, you can trust yourself, indeed you’re capable of doing it, so what are you waiting for?
With such a strong self-esteem you know about your abilities.  You don’t just believe that you can do it, you know that you can do it well.
Having this kind of self-esteem your self-confidence can grow and pushes you toward living and expressing your talents.
You can trust yourself and your abilities.  This is the message of the connection between self-esteem and self-confidence.

Hello….your article is very well written, thorough and effectively worded.
Your thoughts are indeed correct in that ones self-esteem and confidence go hand in hand to create a more balanced mindset.
Now add the word action to your characteristics and you have the means to a strong and healthy self-esteem,. self-worth and confidence.
A doctor can prescribe medicine for an ailment but if the patient does not take the medicine…the chances of getting better do not exist!
    I enjoyed your thoughts immensely!
    Keep moving forward!

Great article. I agree that self-esteem and self confidence are like good brothers and sisters who can not live without each other. A strong support from your “bro” can help you to prosper and vice versa.
Self-esteem and confidence go hand in hand to help you to achieve your goals and to live a happy, “smiley” life you all deserve.

Interesting, I don’t think most people make the distinction between self esteem and self confidence. Usually they say they are one in the same thing. I will think about this theory. Thanks for sharing.
